Okay..no more dilly dallying around. I just submitted the Metro NY entry into the World Wide Flash Mob event. Saturday, May 10 at 10:10 AM. Location is a monument half way between the Unisphere and the Fountain of Planets .

We will need a photographer, I hope we have some sort of banner by then and we will need some general help that day.

Can you tell me more about the location? I'm trying to get a feel for the stage and the muglaudience.

If I looked up the coords on googlemaps correctly it's at 40.747355, -73.842330.

Clearly we need a 5 gallon bucket, a log sheet, and some dollar store items.

Don't need a big bucket really...i was thinking more like a large pail. Just enough to hold strips of paper or index cards. I could see perhaps a 5 gallon bucket or a box to trade swag or coins or TB's. We do need a photographer....I hope Paulo can make it.

I had to change my original times to 1 pm as all events are to occur between 10 and 10:15 am Pacific Time, which is 1 pm here.

I figure FMP was a good place top start something we never tried before. It may not be a 'shock' for a large crowd to gather but it's a good training event for us should we want to do more WWFM's in the future in more 'public' places.

I was advised by NY Admin that I can't have any references to Podcacher.com. I didn't know this site even existed, but they are the actual 'sponsor/originator' of WWFM, but if we link, we are guilty of 'commercialism"

If any one is interested, and thanks to Marilyn's suggestion, I deleted Red5's posting advertising the WWFM event in Suffolk County. I don't have a problem promoting other events, but not when they are at the exact same time as one of ours.

Aw, I don't mind. Even if the events are at the same time, I think most folks would appreciate getting the heads up if there was a WWFM event closer to them that they didn't know about.

Maybe we should advertise Red5's event here, and see if he minds if we make a cross posting on the LIGO boards for the Flushing Meadow event? I'd rather start off our relationship with the LIGO folks on a good and cooperative note, versus a competitive one. There was already a thread over there in the last few weeks about the Metro NYC group wondering if we were a "Friend or Foe" to their organization (fueled by some misunderstandings) - I don't want to prove the "Foe" camp right!

I think a cross-post advertising approach would both (1) be better for the Metro - LIGO relationship, and (2) be a better service for cachers in the NYC / Long Island area. If I'm not way off base, would anyone mind if I reached out to Red5 about it? I made what I hope was a nice reply to the "Friend or Foe" thread at LIGO and hope that a little diplomacy will go a long way...

Thanks to everyone who came out. It was a great...short...event. Looking forward to future ones.

Mark is working on a site for the fall event up in Southern Westchester. Next Spring's event will probably be held on the Brooklyn Promenade overlooking NY Bay.
