Re: I just HATE.....

Yeah, I've seen (or at least attempted) tank caches on many a trip to northeast PA, haven't seen any around here (have a feeling that especially weighted for population we don't have too many tanks to put one on). Have one with a DNF out there, and another that took 3 tries (and then with a little h...

Re: A Diamond in the Rough

I will add a caveat here that I hadn't thought of before that has merit. There is a (I'm not sure if it is middle or high) school on the southwest end of the preserve, and I imagine when school starts/lets out many of the teens go through the park. So maybe (though not as much so as nighttime) those...

Re: SPARE US another urban micro

The idea behind "A Diamond in the Rough" is to find a "nature preserve-y" type park that is not well known in a kind of urban-y (and usually what is considered a "rough") area. The cache (series, though I only have 2 caches in it so far) name is supposed to mean kind of...

Re: FILL SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER!

We're trying, but a decent cache with goodies takes time and effort, don't want all my new hides to be nanos! :D

Re: Westchester County April Event

Sal's Pizzeria - more info » 316 Mamaroneck Ave, Mamaroneck, NY (914) 381-2022 or the Mozart Cafe nearby. Nathan's Famous - more info » 2290 Central Park Ave, Yonkers, NY (914) 779-1800 Nathan's could be interesting.....I made a waymark on it awhile back because of the arcade. But sadly (and after ...

Re: Child Waypoints

I have learned of a great site, http://www.hopstop.com What it lets you do is enter 2 NYC addresses and will then tell you either approximate time/cost of a cab or give you subway directions, including walking (and you can tweak it for more walking vs. more subway transfers). It will not let you ent...

Re: Child Waypoints

you can use latitude and longitude with hopstop.com I grant that I'm a "newbie" at using the site (as I see now that there is an LIRR and NJ Transit beta as well which I wrongly said there's not), but I'm curious what the trick is to doing that. I looked around a little and I saw a way to...

Re: Geocoin trouble

Unfortunately we had to give up too! Our first TB went missing almost at the start, our second is sitting with a "seasoned veteran" who apparently has stopped caching for now. Luckily our geocoing has gone "across the pond" to the UK. This aspect of the game is fun, but it's ofte...

Re: NY Admin strikes again!

To my shock on my latest hide (NANO-A in Ardsley), NYAdmin approved it just 3 hours after I submitted in! I thought because it's just 750 ft. from an almost similar hide (that's also mine) there'd be some weird problem and all.

Re: Central Park asks for Geocache Removal

I hope it comes back, I was hoping one of these days to get down there and find the Ubercache, I have never found a "bigger than Regular" (aka "Large") cache and I think it was the only cache of type Large in the entire NY area; in fact I have no idea where the next nearest such ...

Spreading out in Upper Manhattan

Central Park is reaching saturation anyway. It's about time to start branching out to Inwood Hill, Highbridge Park, Fort Tryon and those areas. Actually, Inwood Hill has 2 caches in it just 600 ft. apart from each other, one quite easy, the other quite challenging (caves, borders on "rock clim...

Re: Spreading out in Upper Manhattan

Wow, I guess you split this off from the other topic, makes it look like I started it, I'm flattered/honored :D Anyway, I have heard that Inwood Hill Park is the last stretch of "virgin forest" still on Manhattan Island! I found it to be an amazing place, and certainly there is room for mo...

Re: Queens's First Earthcache

It's nice to start seeing earthcaches in the New York metro area. A lot of people from other parts just think of NY as all "city" and the ultimate in constant brick, mortar and steel and people don't realize that within a relatively small area we have a beautiful mix of seashore vs. mounta...

Re: July - GC 101 / 201

What does "DL" mean? I would think having the Urban Park Rangers do a Geocaching class would help get in their good graces in terms of things like the issues with Central Park, etc. By the way, I don't think they realize it, but for my Seton Falls multi in the Bronx I indirectly advertise ...
