greyhoundlawyer is leaving us!

... earliest finds were greyhoundlawyer caches on the Upper West Side and in Central Park, and his nose for good hiding spots led to caches that are still healthily logging finds months and years later. I see that SilverMarc and EastVillageFamily have stepped up as good adoptive parents - thanks ...

Re: Oldest active caches

... cache, 4quA5 GC12AF. Oldest in the Bronx is (again, I think, not 100% on these) Vanny Cache GC1382. I ripped my best jeans hunting that one and am still ticked of at myself about it. Forgetting GC30E, Brooklyn has Bergen BeachCombing GC89AF. I meant to go look for that one with one of the Munchkins ...

Re: Paperless caching

... and that shifting back and forth between the cache page information (CacheMate, etc.) and the GPSr mode was a somewhat frustrating process. I still cache paperlessly, but I bring the two gadgets instead of one (GPSr and my phone with the caching software).

Re: Five Star New York cache

Still working on it. I can't say for sure, but I feel like I'm between 80-90% of the way there. I've had at least one major Aha! moment, but obviously there is still work to be done. Haven't really picked it up and hacked ...

Re: Responsible muggles

Actually reminds me of my favorite log ever. I wasn't lucky enough to stumble across it myself, but it still cracks me up. I've mailed it to a number of my non-geocaching friends. It spans these four photos: http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/3f6024e7-8e40-48ff-b074-eccef2971374.jpg ...

Re: New iPhone and Geocaching

... of technology in general, and their engineers may suck compared to Apple's, but they have been doing GPS for a long time and their best models are still pretty bulky (way bigger than the average cell phone, even the average smart phone). I suspect if there was a cost-effective way to make really ...

Re: old cache still alive!

Interesting stuff. It appears that groundspeak was upset enough about the hullabaloo over this cache at the time that in addition to being archived, it's locked so that you can't enter any online logs at all (normally you can log archived caches, if you can figure out how to get to the cache pages)....

Re: old cache still alive!

Does the log book or container list the gc.com waypoint? If so I don't see why you can't "adopt" the cache. You'd be surprised. I tried to adopt Logg Inn only a week or two after it had been archived, with the blessing of the original owner, and groundspeak said no (I wound up placing Snu...

Re: old cache still alive!

Maybe "seE Y0u" is locked like this because it is available on TC? I think it's the other way around... Because groundspeak locked "seE YOu", splicingdan subsequently listed it on TC. At least, that's the way the logs and forum history seem to read. But you bring up a good point...

Re: New iPhone and Geocaching

... what's up with that? According to the SDK agreement, it looks like Apple doesn't want you using your iPhone to replace your Garmin. But it should still technically be feasible, and they demoed their Google Maps app doing geo-caching, so it's really a matter of intended use. Apple, apparently, ...
