Re: old cache still alive!

Interesting stuff. It appears that groundspeak was upset enough about the hullabaloo over this cache at the time that in addition to being archived, it's locked so that you can't enter any online logs at all (normally you can log archived caches, if you can figure out how to get to the cache pages)....

Re: old cache still alive!

Does the log book or container list the gc.com waypoint? If so I don't see why you can't "adopt" the cache. You'd be surprised. I tried to adopt Logg Inn only a week or two after it had been archived, with the blessing of the original owner, and groundspeak said no (I wound up placing Snu...

Re: Geocache TV show

... so if anyone wants a copy of it I can press it to DVD. From what I remember of what I saw last year, it wasn't the most flattering portrait. But still, interesting.

NYGO disbands

... and encourage responsible stewardship of our precious public lands and present geocaching as a family-oriented activity. In 2003 geocaching was still in its formative years and the geocachers that did exist often times commuted miles away to locate the nearest hide. During that period, NYGO ...

More Patrols in Central Park

A few recent incidents in Central Park... Please remember that as mind-numbingly AWESOME as Central Park is, this is still New York and it pays to be smart. Be careful after dark, and it's always good to be with a friend. http://centralparkblogger.com/2009/11/police-department-to-increase-patrols-in-central-park/

Re: Staten Island

... My Monkey You mean the High Line hasn't always been a modern public greenway filled with rainbows and unicorns? :) Trollsbane Looks to still be active, although it hasn't been found in over a year. From looking at the gallery and the satellite photos, it's not clear to me that I'd be ...

Re: Upper Manhattan

Interesting. Do you happen to know if it's definitely still there? It looks like the last successful log is 4 1/2 years ago and the container wasn't doing very well - have you checked on it since? And do you happen to know if the cache itself is behind ...

Re: Stupid Muggles!

If it makes you feel any better, it's not just you. I've placed 16 caches. Of those, 7 have been muggled... I'm not quite at 57.1428571%, but it's still clocking at a healthy .4375%. And 5 of those 7 have been muggled more than once - I think of my 16 placements, I've suffered a total of 15 mugglings. ...

Re: 10th anniversary events

... The oldest surviving cache in NYC is 4quA5 (GC12AF) , hidden in July 2001. It hasn't been visited in almost a year, but my best guess is that it's still there. Vanny Cache (GC1382) is only a few days younger and is the second-oldest cache in NYC (oldest in the Bronx), but it's probably been missing ...

Re: New Metro GC Award Category Suggestion

... watch caches as a way of keeping tabs on my own, since a lot of folks don't log DNFs. If nobody's logging Snug as a Bug for a few days but I'm still seeing Found Its coming in for Gutch's CP Cache and CP Carousel, I know there is a huge chance that I've got a problem.

Re: Stupid Muggles!

The annoying thing is that even what you put the note in that explains everything it still gets plundered (like my Colonial Cache) I've only ever had one muggle contact me about a cache, against about 20-ish muggled containers. I really don't get it. If I was a park ...

Re: Do you think Opencaching is actually bad for Groundspeak

... groundspeak's data themselves, for instance; they can only take in the limited PQs that a user can generate. Interestingly enough, Buxley's maps still exists as a site, although it claims to carry no groundspeak listings - http://brillig.com/geocaching/new_york.shtml . Know why there aren't any ...
