1st find and 1st fellow geocacher on same day!

... and made my 1st find today. As I hiked out of the area = Pelham Bay Park, Orchard Beach, Hunter Island = "Fisherman's Cove", I saw someone approaching on a mountain bike. When we got close, he asked me if I made any finds and I asked him if he was a geocacher. He said he was and ...

Geocaching and Orienteering combined?

... would be about 5K (3.1 miles) or more if one has difficulty finding the hide? The only problem I foresee is what to do if another participant sees someone else accessing a hide?

Re: Central Park asks for Geocache Removal

... to the CPC, Love Bug in Central Park was erased from the face of the earth again. It's a lot of work to do that to this cache, and if it was someone from the CPC it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't reach out (given the information card, and given how the CPC handled the Ubercache). I ...

Re: old cache still alive!

... to their competition seems to vary over time. As recently as a few weeks or months ago I recall reading a thread on the main forums where someone had discovered a filter that deleted mail sent through the GC system if it contained the name of one of their competitors. That filter or bug ...

Conflicts with Hidden Stages

... chance of bumping into a problem. I think the frustrations arise from how these conflicts are handled... These days if you publish too close to someone else's hidden stage you'll mostly get a simple proximity rejection without further details or guidance. So without any further information, ...

Re: Stories About Where We've Let Our GPS'rs Take Us

... who made the hardware; I think the software/maps are powered by Navteq) and asked it to show us the nearest Chinese restaurant. It brought us to someone's house, far away from anything that might resemble a commercial area. Definitely in a residential neighborhood. After we sat there for a few ...

Re: I've Watched the Watchmen

... through two-inch-thick marble countertops, that kind of thing. I have to admit she has a point. - I completely agree about the gore. You can imply someone taking a cleaver to the head without actually showing the cleaver entering the brain. You can imply someone getting his arms chopped off without ...

Re: Inconspicuous-ness

... attempted secrecy... I don't think we're as clever as we think we are, if people are actually watching us. I heard a caching podcast once where someone described how he led a muggle to believe that he worked for the city and that his GPSr was a municipal measuring device of some sort or another. ...

Re: WWFM--FAll 09

Yes, they're semi-annual. But it feels like a year-round event; the last one is barely archived before it starts feeling like someone has to start organizing the next one. I may be wrong about this. But I have noticed that it's been getting harder and harder for us to find hosts for a ...

Re: Custom NYC Attribute Icons?

... I have to remind myself sometimes how different "standard" geocaching is from groundspeak's perspective from what we do here. Maybe for someone in the wilds of Oregon an hour is the difference between a quick cache and a longer one, but yeah, here, it's a little different. I can't speak ...

Re: The War of Light is on!

And I don't see anything wrong with one or two people getting all the FTFs, I mean seriously... Should Ruth have waited in the rain for someone to come by and find the next one? Should Behistun have had a picnic with Navigator in the middle of the VCP woods until the next cacher showed up? ...

Re: Stupid Muggles!

... get grumpy... Muggled after only 5 days! Of the 7 caches I've placed so far, 4 have gone missing. That's 57.1428571%! I get the feeling that someone is stalking my caches. Either that, or my camo is lousy. I'm not so sure you should be blaming someone for stalking your caches or your cammo. ...
