SI 9/25/14

GC5CCCV Skull of Na Pivnich This cache is 1 of 4 skulls hidden on Staten Island, can you find all 4? The Coordinates are loose and they will not help you anyway. Baba Yaga has places a spell around this skull that will block your GSP from the satellites, but ...

1st find and 1st fellow geocacher on same day!

... started geocaching 2 weeks ago and set up 5 caches and made my 1st find today. As I hiked out of the area = Pelham Bay Park, Orchard Beach, Hunter Island = "Fisherman's Cove", I saw someone approaching on a mountain bike. When we got close, he asked me if I made any finds and I asked ...

Interested in finding an "unpublished" cache?

... My cache was entitled "How 'erratic' are you?" since it is close to a large glacial erratic boulder at the northern tip of Hunter Island, north of Orchard Beach (Bx.) I think it's hidden in a clever place but some of you guys (esp. Behistun) are very clever finders. If you're in ...

Re: Oldest active caches

... a couple of months ago but it took us longer than we anticipated to find some of the others on our list and we never got to it. Queens and Staten Island I'm not sure about; I haven't seriously "cased" those areas for full frontal assaults yet.

Re: May 10- WWFM--FLUSHING MEADOW

... advertising approach would both (1) be better for the Metro - LIGO relationship, and (2) be a better service for cachers in the NYC / Long Island area. If I'm not way off base, would anyone mind if I reached out to Red5 about it? I made what I hope was a nice reply to the "Friend or ...

Conflicts with Hidden Stages

... with a hidden stage for one of New York's many puzzle and/or multi caches. By my count there are around 50 hidden physical stages on the island of Manhattan alone, so it's not unusual to bump up against one. Now I know that historically speaking, it got to be a problem that folks would ...

Bow Cache is Back

This cache was laid up for a while due to CPC reconstruction work in the area, but the best container / camo on the island is back. If you haven't found it yet, it's worth a visit. A member of the Triple Crown for the container / camo category: Bow Cache Liz's Joules (currently disabled, ...

Fear Archived

With sadness I must report that Fear (GCKQE6) has been archived... It was a 5/5 mystery cache on Staten Island and from what I understand did a pretty good job of trying to live up to that rating. It was the last of splicingdan's caches to survive his retirement from the groundspeak-branded ...

Re: Coin Poll

... the halfway point on being able to place our minting order. I have approached four of the sister geocaching organizations close to us - LIGO (Long Island), SJG (South Jersey), CJG (Central Jersey) and NNJC (Northern New Jersey) and they've all been cool about us posting about pre-order availability ...

... order to Oak Coins. That's pretty close in my book. I've posted about our coins on the forums for the following sister organizations: LIGO (Long Island) SJG (South Jersey) CJG (Central Jersey) NNJC (Northern New Jersey) NEPAG (Northeast Pennsylvania) CCC (Connecticut) I'm going to make one last ...

Graveyard Caches

... a difference if there is no physical container (i.e., a virtual waypoint or a question to answer for a puzzle cache)? A cemetery cache on Long Island was retracted by NY Admin recently... That would make it the sixth cache in my general caching space to be retracted by NY Admin in the last ...

Re: Maps for Garmin Etrex Vista HCx

... so if I myself could only pick one I'd go for the Navigator. But given the stories and events I've seen posted, I'm guessing a lot of our Long Island friends would probably get a lot more use out of opting for the Topo pack instead.

Re: Staten Island

... anything else. Most cachers place caches near where they live (or work), and I just don't think there are very many cachers who live on Staten Island right now. I don't think it's because SI doesn't lend itself to caching or that people who live on SI are less likely to enjoy it; sometimes ...

Re: County challenge

We'll be doing Central Park, which I believe is New York county. We're staying at a friends on Staten Island, which, if I'm not mistaken, is Richmond County. So that leaves Kings and Queens county? If I look at a map right, I believe we can hit Queens on the way to Long Island. ...
