1st find and 1st fellow geocacher on same day!

... the future. Interesting, eh? having these two firsts happen nearly at the same time. Incidentally, he was going out to find the cache I had just found.

Geocaching and Orienteering combined?

... (let's say in a 10 square mile area) in the fastest time? I guess using a digital camera to show pics of each hide would determine if each runner found all the designated hides? These hides/caches would only be put out for the event and removed afterwards. The geographical area would only be announced ...

Re: Whereigo

Follow-up, I think I found the link: http://eventful.com/performers/wherigo-gaming-experience/create-a-wherigocom-gaming-experience-/P0-001-000095162-4 Some of my initial enthusiasm for the Wherigo concept has definitely worn off in ...

Puzzles Anyone?

... Five Star New York by Avroair 17 smilies - only about four per year. This is usually the only cache more than a week old in Manhattan I haven't found. I'm close, I think. But that makes it all the more frustrating. It Begins at the Strangers' Gate by childofatom Just 5 smilies Prime Meridian ...

Military Containers and Geocaching in NYC

... printed with scary writing all over the outside, and now (apparently) someone has used one to make a bomb. If I were the NYC authorities and I found one of these planted in an urban area, I'd probably be a little freaked out. And after the hullaballu over the Cartoon Network marketing stunt ...

Not Signing the Logbook

... what I gather... The cacher was looking for Snug as a Bug in Central Park , our first hide. Although the GPSr was being difficult, he thinks he found the hiding spot - but there were three policemen nearby and he dared not put the cache at risk. He was hoping to log a find in New York, but lost ...

Good GPSr for Schools?

... for the classroom Mac, so they can load the waypoints in and pull them up in Google Earth and such. One of the teachers even borrowed a GPSr and found his first geocaches over spring break, near his home town in Northern Alabama. Anyway, they just came back to me and said that the school has ...

Re: Paperless caching

... with with some of the expansion kits that are available, I wasn't too happy with my Palm-based phone that way... It's kind of nifty to do, but I found that primary-function GPSrs are *way* more reliable, and that shifting back and forth between the cache page information (CacheMate, etc.) and ...

Re: Responsible muggles

That rules! When I found Phase 7 of Alan2's 1776 series up in the Bronx, I wasn't surprised to see that EVF had beat me to the cache - but I was surprised that a muggle had claimed the FTF two or three weeks before publication! According ...

Re: Central Park asks for Geocache Removal

I found an old thread about problems with Central Park geocaches that seems to make it clear that the CO needs to be local. Well I'm glad this group has already solved that problem. I actually just got a nice email from a ...

Re: Geocoin trouble

Just from watching the coins logged into some of my caches, I've found that what Merge ran into isn't that uncommon - sometimes people will go two, three, four weeks or more before logging that they picked up a coin. I can't really explain it, except that ...

Re: It must not be about the numbers...

You may be on to something. Both finders were on Adak doing UXO work - disposing of unexploded ordinance left over from WWII. I don't think they found the cache by accident - I think it was more like what you were describing with the Antarctican scientists who have the equipment, and a lot of ...

Re: Conflicts with Hidden Stages

How does this work with you FTF hounds who have a cache found within minutes of publication? Admin chooses and green lights one of the three choices, notifies the hider who then has a few days to make the actual hide? That works out fine as long as ...
