CITO - Pat Dolan Trail

... 7:30 p.m. on November 15, 2011 when she was struck by a vehicle. To honor her for her efforts, the trail was named after her. This CITO event is being conducted in conjunction with the Flushing Meadow Corona Park Conservancy.

Have you been secretly observed by another cacher?

... the nearby parking area, he could have had a pair of binoculars and just waited to see if anyone else came by and watch what they were doing? I'm being paranoid, right? :-)

Re: GPSr and Software Help

... and am trying to track down. It's killing me. I have monkeyed around with the "Custom Points of Interest" waypoints (added advantage of being able to save them to the memory card = no 999 limit), but without much success. I may not be using them correctly. Do any Garmin ninjas out there ...

Puzzles Anyone?

... in a few minutes; depending on the back-and-forth with NY Admin (and NY Admin's schedule) it should show up in a day or two. Your sneak peak for being a part of the NY Metro Area GC Society is that it's a subway theme... This is also a good opportunity to plug puzzle caches in general. There ...

Not Signing the Logbook

... required some deduction. Here's what I gather... The cacher was looking for Snug as a Bug in Central Park , our first hide. Although the GPSr was being difficult, he thinks he found the hiding spot - but there were three policemen nearby and he dared not put the cache at risk. He was hoping to ...

Re: NY Admin strikes again!

Pofe publishes on Thursdays (and sometimes Wednesdays). She's a good reviewer, but don't expect anything faster. Hmm... Are you being deliberately misleading..? I had heard rumors of Pofe's identity and wouldn't have used the same pronoun... I've been working on a bunch of Harry-Andy ...

Re: Central Park asks for Geocache Removal

... EVF is taking is fine. Generally speaking I think we have a good relationship right now, and that CP cache owners have been doing a great job of being responsible and checking up on each other's caches. (I can't speak for others, but I feel as responsible for other caches in CP as I do for my ...

Re: old cache still alive!

Interesting stuff. It appears that groundspeak was upset enough about the hullabaloo over this cache at the time that in addition to being archived, it's locked so that you can't enter any online logs at all (normally you can log archived caches, if you can figure out how to get to the cache ...

Re: old cache still alive!

... and several people still successfully logged after it with no problem. I get the sense that the default is for caches to be log-able even after being archived, and that being "locked" is an extra step that groundspeak only occasionally takes (perhaps when they're ticked about something). ...

Re: Extreme Geocaching

I was going to go with the most recent group to attack this cache, but wound up being out of town that weekend unfortunately. It's not a 5/5 - it's a 3/4.5 - but maybe it fits the bill.

Conflicts with Hidden Stages

Re: Conflicts with Hidden Stages

... either the current method or your suggested method requires at least two hikes out to the hide... which I guess is part of the hazard of being an owner now that I think more about it. Yeah, I think you're right. If you unknowingly submit a cache that conflicts with a hidden stage, I couldn't ...

Re: Conflicts with Hidden Stages

I guess it is worth noting that the last iPhone had cellular-based location gimmicks that did ...

Re: Manhattan's Oldest Cache Revived!

... stuff). I've started to prefer spots that are in full view of trails and paths, relying on containers that are self-camouflaged and on geocachers being subtle about their retrievals and replacements. I figure I'll be less likely to get into a territorial situation. But the NY Admin and Groundspeak ...
