8th Annual Manhattan Proto-Picnic Event

Interested in finding an "unpublished" cache?

I just had a cache rejected because of the .1 mile (538 ft.) proximity rule when the reviewer determined that my cache was too close to the 2nd stage of a 4 part multi-cache (GCZRFT) How was I supposed to know? They only publish the coords ...

Re: Bridges, "Rock and Roll" (GC19FHX), "Handy Relief" (GC19NF1)

Central Park is geocache friendly. The Director of Operations in March 2005 asked that no listings be allowed in Strawberry Fields because that area is particularly sensitive, but was supportive of responsibly maintained caches in other areas of the park. (I got this information from New ...

Re: Puzzles Anyone?

It's interesting, because I myself love puzzles and am often disappointed by puzzle caches that are basically multis with virtual stages. That to me is more like simple task completion than puzzle solving (plugging numbers into an ...

Not Signing the Logbook

I got an interesting email today. It was a little difficult to understand because although it was in English, it was written by a native French speaker. I would like to add that he did a far better job of writing in English than I ever would have in French. Nevertheless, ...

Re: Central Park asks for Geocache Removal

... I'm not sure I want to put the CPC into a situation where they have to come down officially "for" or "against" geocaching, because for the person who ultimately makes that call there isn't much upside to deciding "for". In the meantime, I'm pretty sure the CPC ...

Re: Central Park asks for Geocache Removal

... just got a nice email from a geocacher based in Sweden, who placed a cache in Central Park over the weekend and was denied by the NY Admin because he is not a local cacher. I (obviously) think this is a good call - I think the cacher is nice and I'm going to help him rescue a traveler or ...

Re: old cache still alive!

Maybe "seE Y0u" is locked like this because it is available on TC? I think it's the other way around... Because groundspeak locked "seE YOu", splicingdan subsequently listed it on TC. At least, that's the way the logs and forum ...

Re: Central Park asks for Geocache Removal

He said that he did not know of any policy about geocaching either way, but that he contacted the CO because he felt that type of container could not remain at that location. On the cache page it seemed like he contacted groundspeak directly - just to satisy my own curiosity ...

... (or WWFMs, or etc.) and don't have a good intuition for how to find specific ones. SilverMarc's Proto Picnic is easy enough for me to find because it shows up on the first page of my "unfound caches" list, but with 25 guesses I'm not sure I'd figure out what state GeoWoodstock ...

Conflicts with Hidden Stages

... of an issue, that I totally understand why it was addressed, and why admins are now pretty tight-lipped on the subject of coords. But I'm posting because I think the pendulum may have swung too far against earnest and honest cachers trying to break into the game, and facing often scarce real estate. ...
