1st find and 1st fellow geocacher on same day!

... asked him if he was a geocacher. He said he was and told me his handle. Lo and behold, he was the guy who was second to find my caches. We talked about our geocaching adventures and and shared info that will be helpful in the future. Interesting, eh? having these two firsts happen nearly at the ...

Geocaching and Orienteering combined?

... and/or a GPSr with built in topo maps to determine the most efficient approach to finding all the hides. Ther total distance to be run would be about 5K (3.1 miles) or more if one has difficulty finding the hide? The only problem I foresee is what to do if another participant sees someone else ...

Re: Interested in finding an "unpublished" cache?

Actually I did look for it about 2 weeks ago and it was a DNF for me but I didn't post it in the log. I planned to go back and look again but my plans went awry. So I emailed the owner and asked her to check its status. I thought it was ...

Re: Child Waypoints

I've never heard the term "child waypoint" before - although I've got a sense for it from context, in case I'm missing something could you tell me more about what it means?

Re: GeoWoodstockVI

... 1, let alone that they're planning # VII already. Nah, it's not just you. I don't follow the geo-events very closely, so I don't know much about GeoWoodstocks (or WWFMs, or etc.) and don't have a good intuition for how to find specific ones. SilverMarc's Proto Picnic is easy enough for ...

Re: Aug 7-9 Midwest Geobash

There was one more cache I had to hit. It required a team effort. The hint was '172 oz.' There was a pipe stuck in the ground about 5 1/2 feet tall and had a rubber cap on top. I pulled the cap and looked inside. Nothing. It took the cap apart. Nothing. I gave up. I discussed this with ...

Re: November 8 - WWFM 4 (GC1GA3R)

That makes some sense. I don't have events on my notification list, and my notification radius is too tight for most events. I only found out about Paladin8's event the other week because Dooley and mmacgown both mentioned it to me in email as I was emailing them back and forth about caches they ...

Re: Maps for Garmin Etrex Vista HCx

... cheaper, is relative to other Topo packs that Garmin produces that focus on particular regions of the country at much higher levels of detail. For about $100 you can get the whole U.S. at 1:100,000 scale. For about the same price each you can get separate maps covering different regions (West, ...

... cache I've ever found. But I figure that the only thing that links the caches on these lists together is the fact that I have found them or care about them, and 99% of people visiting these cache pages don't give a rat's arse about me. So for these caches I only have the first checkbox clicked: ...

Re: Visiting NY from Oz (28 Sep - 15 Oct)

I'd list it on and post about it in the Events forum here - we don't have an independent site the way you Aussies do (yes, I am jealous). As far as a venue... I may have to defer to folks who actually have more socially interesting ...
